On Monday the 5th of November AMS launched our 2018 Christmas appeal in Brisbane.
On Monday night, Australian Marist Solidarity hosted a crowd of more than 100 guests at the Marist Centre in Brisbane for the launch of its 2018 Christmas Appeal.
The event was attended by Australian Marist Brothers Province Leader, Brother Peter Carroll, as well as other Marist leaders from the Marist Oceania Council.
The event, which was hosted by Australian Marist Solidarity Chairperson, Mr Peter Sheehan, also attracted some of the organisation’s most influential donors, teachers, volunteers, supporters and friends.
The acting CEO of AMS, Ashley Bulgarelli, spoke about this Christmas AMS is turning our attention to four education institutes in the Pacific: St Dominic’s Rural Training Centre in the Solomon Islands; St Joseph’s College in Bougainville, Papua New Guinea; St Louis High School, Kiribati; and the Marist Champagnat Institute in Fiji. These four schools offer unique opportunities for marginalised young people and play a critical role in equipping these students with skills for the future. We believe that education is the key to unlock opportunities for young people and research shows that education is the number one way to break intergenerational poverty. Unfortunately, many of the students in these schools have struggled to access education due to learning difficulties, rural disadvantage and crippling poverty.
