AMS would like to welcome back students and staff for the start of Term 3. Awaken – Marists in Solidarity has been warmly received across the Marist community and we thank you for your continued support of thousands of young people across Marist centres in Asia Pacific who are accessing education for the first time while some others learning in new life or vocational skills’ programmes.
As students and staff in a Marist school you enable Marcellin’s dream to continue into the future by supporting the internationality that was part of the Marist DNA in its origins. From school openings, to project planning and immersions across Asia and the Pacific it has been a very busy time here at AMS. This would not be possible without the generous donations and fundraising efforts many schools across Australia have made to date. As many immersion students and staff return to school after their pilgrimage can attest too, your support is felt across the region and into local communities where many children are now accessing education and resources that otherwise could not be provided.
Awaken – Marits in Solidarity was chosen to reflect the Bicentenary of Marists across the globe. Dr Frank Malloy (2017) wrote that “Awaken urges us not to resign the story of the foundation to quaint and folksy feel good stories. Rather we consider anew the faith, urgency, courage, and tenacity of the first Marists. In challenging the status quo, they gave birth to vibrant Marist school communities, from which literally millions of young people the world over have benefited for the past two hundred years.”
We ask that you continue to keep AMS in your thoughts in Term 3 and 4 so that we can help our partners in the field challenge and change the status quo of young people on the margins across Asia and Pacific.
