The Marist Asian Pacific Center (MAPAC) was established in the Philippines in 1991 as a teacher training and formation centre for young Brothers. MAPAC also facilitates community outreach programs.
The Marist Asia Pacific Centre (MAPAC) is located in Manila, the bayside capital of the Philippines. Today its courses have been made available to lay people, whilst the Brothers have also introduced a community outreach program. In November 2017 the young Brothers led by Brother Bao conceived and implemented a two-day Christmas program which targeted at 20 boys aged between 5 and 15 who live and/or work in Navotas rubbish dump. The program included activities such as sports, art, games, prayer and Christmas celebrations. The aim was to give some respite to the children who live in harsh conditions and to provide them with some joy at Christmas time in this devoutly Catholic country. We are pleased to report that this two day program was a great success with the Navotas children.
AMS would like to thank in a special way the staff and students of Sacred Heart College who’s fundraising efforts help to support this program.
Establishing a program of inclusive games that focuses on participation of all is a wonderful vehicle for the Marists to actively be connected with marginalized children. Many of the Navotas children live below the poverty line and are not otherwise presented with any organised sports or recreational activities.
