Improving educational outcomes in the Solomon Islands.
Bishop Epalle School is a Diocesan school located in Honiara, Solomon Islands. In 1991 the school was literally built by the families in the area who raised enough money to construct the school so that their children could obtain a Catholic education. Since then enrollment has expanded to over 1,300 students across primary and secondary level. As a result of this growth, the current facilities did not match the needs of the school.
The school and parents have been for a long time raising money to fund the building of a new administration block which we are pleased to report was recently completed after a nine year build. Now, thanks to the generous support of the Marist Mission Centre (MMC) the school has been able to complete the internal fit-out of the new administration block.
Without the support from MMC the staff would still be in the old admin building which was overcrowded, in need of major repair as it leaked when it rains, and there was no space for teachers to meet. The new administration block provides 24 secondary school teachers and 16 primary school teachers with a desk to work and places to meet.
