Last Saturday Melbourne turned on a delightful day, contrary to its Winter reputation, for a roast luncheon at the Marist Centre, Brunswick. Over 40 people attended with a focus on our country supporters from regions such as Shepparton, Bairnsdale, Traralgon, Sale and Kilmore who have found it difficult to attend other events in the evening due to distance. The event was hosted by the Friends of AMS led by Claire Bergin and included generous donations of home prepared food. Mt Toowong Winery once gain provided boutique reds and whites and thanks to the Cremascos for supporting our functions as they do twice a year.
The CEO of Australian Marist Solidarity, Br Allen Sherry, gave a presentation, which was during the main course due to the rush to the AFL commitments, on the Timor Leste and Cambodia project developments. He remarked that “our country supporters have been very influential in funding a number of the 14 school renovations that the AMS team have delivered in the past 6 years and this was our first chance to acknowledge their valuable partnership”. He also launched the MSC Community Village EOFY appeal for Cambodia students with disabilities so they can access high school and tertiary after completing primary schooling at LaValla school
The review of the occasion was very positive and it has been proposed this be a bi-annual AMS event in Melbourne’s Winter.
