On Monday August 28, 2017 Anthony Lennon, a member of The Tony and Gwenyth Lennon Foundation which is based in Western Australia, met with the CEO of Australian Marist Solidarity, Brother Allen Sherry, in Melbourne for a cheque handover from the foundation. Accompanying the CEO was the former Business Manager of the Melbourne Marists, Mr Rex Cambrey in whose honour a scholarship fund has been created by the Lennon Family. This fund provides scholarships to school children in rural Victorian Marist schools and Timor Leste undergraduates.
Currently the foundation has seen five graduates from the Marist Teachers College in Baucau, Timor Leste, benefit through to graduation in 2017 from the generosity of the scholarship support. Currently also there is a commitment to three undergraduate students that is ongoing.
Brother Allen thanked the foundation’s directors remarking “the partnership of the Lennon family and the PEET land development company, has been over twenty years and highly supportive of the mission of Marists and now AMS to provide access to quality education for young people who are struggling”.
