Working with communities for the welfare of children
The Sunflower Children’s Centre is a project of the CICM Missionaries in the mountainous Filipino city of Baguio, on the main island of Luzon. The centre focuses on the wellness of children in the city and has launched a new five-year project in the rural communities of the Cordillera Region.
This project will target at least 20 communities each year and operates in partnership with local authorities and traditional community leaders. Staff and volunteers from the Sunflower Children’s Centre (pictured), who are trained social workers and counsellors, stay in these communities for one week and work with them to better support the wellbeing of children and young people. This collaborative approach allows for a more holistic intervention scope.
Each year this project seeks to educate over 1100 children and youth as well as 340 parents. Community-level change is needed, and by supporting this project you can ensure that children in the remote areas of the Philippines grow up in a safe environment that enables them to reach their full potential.
