Australian Marist Solidarity works with a number of project partners across Asia and the Pacific region to deliver small, yet impactful projects to enhance everyday learning. Recently, St Joseph’s College, Samoa was the recipient of generous donations from Parramatta Marist High School which enabled the College to upgrade the preparation room and science laboratory to a basic standard so that it can function properly as a laboratory.
Equipment including extractor fans, a refrigerator, air conditioning, sinks, gas outlets, a whiteboard and electrical coverings were installed during the fit out. Now that this work has been completes the students and staff have a much safer and functional learning environment to work in. As a part of a multi-stage upgrade to classrooms, the next phase of this project will be to purchase the necessary equipment students will require for practical learning experiments.
St Joseph’s College is a Marist School of 450 students and 22 teachers. The school was established in 1950 and the current classrooms were built in 1998.
St Joseph’s has 16 classrooms many of which are in desperate need of refurbishment. The interiors have become faded; the blackboards need replacing; and there is no space for students to display their work or post notices. There is more work to be done to rejuvenate the classrooms at St Joseph’s College. AMS wants to assist this College with some of the future renovations, so to learn more about this school or to donate, click here.
