The Anondo Neer Project was developed by the Marist Missionary Sisters
The Anondo Neer project continues to reach out to disabled children and young adults living in Dhaka city, and several children who were in the project and now live just outside the city. It provides a supportive environment in which intellectually and/or physically disabled young people are helped to develop their potential and feel valued for the person they are. Basic physiotherapy, literacy and numeracy education, training in life skills and income generating skills, as well as opportunities for socializing with other disabled people and the wider community, are some of the activities provided by the project. Help is also given, where necessary, with medical care and special equipment related to the disability. The project provides ongoing health education, counselling and emotional support to the parents and immediate families of these disabled young people.
This project reaches out to other local organisations to provide for individuals requiring more specialised support. Forty seven disabled children/ young adults were provided with the above mentioned activities during the first half of this year. Of these 18 belonged to the Tejkunipara Centre group, 11 to the Noya Nagor group and 16 abandoned disabled children at Mother Teresa’s Home in Islampur. Project staff also continued to provide care at Notre Dame for two other disabled children, whose families have moved to areas just outside of Dhaka.
The Marist Mission Centre (MMC) has ensured that this project has been able to provide a positive change in the lives of many disabled children and young adults living in Dhaka, Bangladesh. In 2018, the ongoing partnership with MMC will ensure this program continues to effect change for some of the most deprived children in Bangladesh.
