A new learning experience for students at St Ann Secondary School in Vanuatu.
St Ann Secondary School is a school located in a Marist Fathers Parish in Port Olry, Vanuatu. At the beginning of 2017 the new science lab was opened after the school and the families fundraised money to build it. However, there was no equipment in the lab and as a result all but a handful of students passed their science exams. The school was then damaged by Cyclone Donna in May 2017 and had a hefty repair bill, leaving a hole in the budget and led to a deprioritizing of the need for science equipment. As a result, the laboratory did not have equipment until just a few months ago.
Recently, Marist Mission Centre (MMC) came together with AMS to provide the support required to purchase learning materials and science equipment. Thanks to MMC’s support, 163 students from grades 7 to 12 are benefiting from the recently fitted out science lab.
This is an exciting advancement for the teachers and students of St Ann Secondary School. The science equipment will help provide a more holistic education for the students as they can undertake experiments and engage with science in a hands-on manner. This will also help their final grades as they have a practical way to test their understanding of the curriculum.
