On Wednesday 1st May, the Feast Day of St Joseph the Worker, Mr Anthony Lennon and Mr. Rex Cambrey have again presented the Marist Brothers with a scholarship cheque from The Tony & Gwenyth Lennon Family Foundation. Receiving the cheque on behalf of the Marist Brothers was
Brother Greg McDonald, Provincial Councillor.
This generous sponsorship is supporting two ICFP students, Esterita Freitas and Angelina da Costa, at the Marist Teachers Training College in Baucau, Timor-Leste.
The scholarship, known as the Rex Cambrey Education Scholarship was created by Mr. Tony Lennon in honour and recognition of the former Business Manager of the Melbourne Marists Southern Province, Rex Cambrey, in recognition of his generous support to the Marist Brothers and their Ministries over a period of just under thirty years.
In addition to the East Timorese students the scholarship has also supported a boarding student from Assumption College Kilmore, and three students from Marist College Bendigo.
The scholarship commenced in 2014 and presentations are made annually.
It is fully funded by the Lennon Family Foundation whose support has already assisted six students from the Marist Teachers College in Baucau, Timor Leste, right through to their graduations in 2016 and 2017. Esterita and Angelina are expected to graduate at the end of 2019.
The continuing support of The Tony & Gwyneth Lennon Family Foundation for aspiring East Timorese teachers is greatly appreciated by the Marist College in Baucau, Timor-Leste, and by the Australian Marist Solidarity team in Brisbane.
