St Joseph’s College Apia, Samoa is currently undergoing transformational change, retrofitting their classrooms and laboratory with modern technology to enhance their learning spaces.
St Joseph’s College is a Marist School of 450 students and 22 teachers. The school was established in 1950 and the current classrooms were built in 1998. Since then, the school has not had the financials to maintain its infrastructure and consequently, many of the buildings are showing structural deterioration. Moreover, the schools fixtures and fittings are also in urgent need of repair.
Now, thanks to the generous support of Marist Schools including Parramatta Marist High School, St Joseph’s College has been able to refurbish the laboratory with the installation of an air conditioner as well as a new switchboard and associated wiring. The lab has also had new desks built and installed as well as receiving a general refurbishment. In the classrooms 16 new whiteboard have now also been installed.
Even with all this work, it is only the start for St Joseph’s College. The school has 16 classrooms all of which are in desperate need of refurbishment. The interiors have become faded; the blackboards need replacing; and there is no space for students to display their work or post notices.
