St Joseph’s College Mabiri came into being after the civil war destroyed St Joseph’s College Rigu, in Bougainville, Papua New Guinea 20 years ago.
St Joseph’s College Mabiri has over the years provided quality education and skills training for many young Bougainvilleans, giving the students hope for their futures and the development of their communities. The school currently caters for approximately 600 students ranging from kindergarten to Junior High School as well as a vocational training. The Division of Education in Bougainville mandates that all Junior High Schools are to teach computers but St Joseph’s, like most schools, have never had computers. That was until recently with the school receiving a grant from AMS to purchase 20 computers.
Thanks to the generous support of Marist Schools Australia, Kindermissionswerk and Combined Services Third World Fund 20 new computers were recently purchased and installed at the students’ new computer lab with the first 10 students having their first ever computer class not long after. The next phase of this project will be to fundraise for the purchase of an additional 20 computers which will fill the laboratory.
With computer training so important in the 21st century, AMS was pleased to be able to support St Joseph’s College in the building of the laboratory and purchase of their computers.
