The Balay Pasilungan Foundation established a shelter to address the plight of street boys in Davao City, on the southern Philippine island of Mindanao.
The Balay Pasilungan Foundation provides shelter for approximately thirty underprivileged boys who were living on the streets of Davao City. AMS works together with the Marist Fathers District of Asia and generous donor Lenity Australia to support these boys ranging from 5-15 years of age, who have been orphaned from disasters, abandoned as a consequence of poverty and/or are homeless and vulnerable. The project provides these boys with health and welfare services as well as meals and accommodation whilst they attend the local state school. After the boys graduate from school, they are transitioned into an independent living program as they seek tertiary or vocational studies or employment.
Recently, the shelter saw ten children finish the residential care program. Seven boys returned home and four boys moved to Marcellin Youth Center in General Santos City to continue their studies. Now, a new intake will see seven newly rescued boys be provided with food and shelter whilst they attend school.
Balay Pasilungan Foundation’s vision is a community where underprivileged children will become productive and have wholesome adult lives. It is hoped that these children will be drawn to a better integration in to the mainstream of the society.
