Last Saturday, February 21, the Marist administered ICFP teacher training college celebrated the graduation of fifty-one Timorese. Having successfully completed their Bachelor of Education degrees in November last year, the families of graduates traveled from across the country over several days to attend this significant event.
As guest speaker Dr Joao Cancio Frietas, a former national government Minister for Education, spoke of the value of the ICFP to the nation and the call of these young teachers. It was a first ceremony for the new ICFP Director, Brother Peter Corr. The graduation was hosted in the large newly renovated central marketplace from Portuguese times in the Old Town Baucau. It is located down the street from the college and the space catered for a huge crowd.
The MSol team deeply values this partnership with ICFP and we hope our donors to this program, especially the Emerge Foundation and Australian Friendship Groups of Timor-Leste across Australia who support it, also relish this proud moment for these young people. A group who are shaping the nation.
