This past week Michael Coleman, Timor-Leste projects coordinator, has been in Timor-Leste carrying out monitoring visits in the Baucau District with Sebastiao Simoes dos Santos, in-country coordinator.
“It has once again been inspiring to meet with the managers of the projects and the children and young people that we support together”, said Michael.
Early in the week they met with staff and students of the Children and Youth Centre Ponta Leste (CYCPL) and the Centre for Training in Uai-lili Lafu (CTUF). These meetings provide the managers with the opportunity to discuss concerns, share learnings and to plan for future needs of each of the programs.
Michael and Sebastiao also met with Sister Herminia Maria Matos Sarmento, recently appointed school infrastructure redevelopment coordinator for the Diocese of Baucau, and Father Avelino, director of Fundacao San Jose. They discussed the Diocese’s plans for education in the region and how AMS can assist this important work for the young people of Baucau District. This partnership continues to play a major part in AMS’s work in Timor-Leste.
The end of the week included visits to schools in the remote villages of Ossu and Abafala to discuss past and future development according to the Diocese priorities.
