While attending the recent board meeting of the Phnom Penh of the NGO Marist Solidarity Cambodia, the CEO of AMS, (Allen Sherry fms), visited the site of the new MSC Community Village under construction. AMS donors among the major funders of this project.
The progress, despite weather difficulties, has been marked since the last meeting of the MSC board three months ago. Four of the eleven houses are almost complete while considerable progress has been made on the computer/study centre. The laying of the foundations for the other buildings are well advanced and some have walls being erected on the day of the visit. With the wet season imminent then there will be further delays but the project is expected to be completed by the end of December, 2018.
This project of offering young adults with a physical disability accommodation because they are not able often to enter schools in their rural provinces, is at the heart of the Marists commitment to access for education for all. It echoes the commitment of AMS to the Sustainable Development Goals of the global community.
